When you get likes on facebook, favorite on twitter, it will be understood by Google as a social signal. More social signals mean better SERP. Social networking sites send social signals to Google. When you share your links on social bookmarking sites such as PInterest, Stumbleupon, Google will understand this as backlinking (because you are linking your website with the social bookmarking site). backlinks are also helpful in getting better rank on Google, or other search engines.
