Trusting family and friends with business is a big mistake everyone should avoid. Treat everyone as clients and make them pay an amount upfront. I once had a friend who needed me to proofread his work and I knew he assumed I would do it for free. I told him I was swamped with work but i could pass it on to my business partner (I have no business partner but he didn't know that). I told him how much my partner charges and that she was paid upfront for her services. He said he didn't have money as he thought I would be doing it for him as his friends (imagine). He ended up paying because I told him my partner would not work for free or based on promises of a future payment. You need to be smart about things like this.
