How does the affiliate system work? Need some pointers.

Now when you go to a service and press the share arrow button then it gives you the affiliate link to that freelancers service which you could share and thus make 10% on a sale via your link. So does this 10% work only for new users who signed up through your affiliate link to buy the service or does it still work if the buyer is already on Seoclerks?
