There are many digital services and products out there that can be given away for free since it costs the developer or specialist no money upfront to do the work. Sure, if you're doing SEO or any service, then there's a time investment, but if you're giving it away for free, I would hope you're not doing full campaigns and trying to rank clients for difficult keywords lol.
If you have an ebook, an online course, sell digital services or anything that isn't physical then you can give it away for free and boost your overall sales later on because of your generosity.
Choose a select group of "Beta Testers."
Whenever I'm starting a new service, I like to select certain people that will get access to it. I will call them Beta Testers, but they're actually the people who will be loving my services from the start and be my ambassadors or affiliates later on.
You can choose 1, 10, 20, or even 100+ people to be your "Beta Testers," but I would hope you're cherry-picking the people who have a more substantial following. Why? Move down to my next point 
Ask for their "honest" opinion about your product or service
Whenever you give something away for free, there is an unwritten rule that those people need to leave you a positive review. Now, you can't ask them for a positive review because that's against Google guidelines, but you can ask them for their honest review
Their honest review will likely be positive because they go the service or product for free, so you don't have to worry much about that. What I like to do is send them to a page where they can click "Yes, I loved the product/service" or "No, I did not like it," and depending on what they click will send them to specific pages. If they clicked "Yes," they would get sent to a page where I need public reviews, but if they clicked "No," they would get forwarded to my form where they could submit their dislikes directly to me. By doing this, I can remove most of the negative reviews that may have been coming my way and funnel the positive reviews to the places I need them
Start running Giveaways each month
A great way to build some hype about your services or products is to run monthly giveaways. Back when I had SEO software running full time, I would do these giveaways, and my site would get flooded the day of the announcement. People would submit their information and wait for the end of the week to come to see if they had won a spot.
This is also a great way to build your email lists since people need to submit their names, websites, and emails for the giveaway so you can fulfill their orders or send them the digital products
Share for an entry?
A lot of people will require you to share their services or products in order to get an entry into their giveaway. This is a great way to increase the buzz around your product or service because if you were to get 500 entries, that's 500 shares across the internet, and that means you could potentially get a wave of additional entries that you may have never gotten. If people have a chance to get something for free they don't mind sharing it and that's why this is a great way to boost everything from branding to subscriber counts.
Final Thoughts,
Running a giveaway isn't going to make you rich, but it will definitely help build your brand, increase the number of subscribers you have, and it usually generates a few more sales than you would have normally gotten. The best thing about this is that you can build your email list and send out newsletters to each subscriber every week to pull them back into your website and hopefully make a sale. Remember, email marketing converts much better than any other form of marketing out there ;)
