Most people are looking for a second source of income; hopefully, a passive one, but they think it's incredibly challenging to do this online. When the internet became available for everyone, it was almost impossible to make a second income online while working a full-time job, but that's the past, and today, it's much easier to do this in your spare time.
There are plenty of services out there that can work in the shadows, be your sales team, help you out with setting up, and mostly do everything that needs to be done for you to help build a stable secondary income stream. You won't get 100% of the profits from your sales, but you're not doing 100% of the work needed to fulfill orders or do the work required.
Below are the 5 top ways you can make money online without quitting your day job.
1. Dropshipping Websites
I've been dropshipping for years and can say it's a nice way to build up an income stream. You won't get rich overnight, you may never get rich from this, but it's an easy enough way to get a full eCommerce website up and running in a short amount of time and have no inventory of your own.
You can use WordPress and WooCommerce plugins like AliDropship, which will populate your WordPress store with all the products you want in a fraction of the time you could do it on your own. Before I started using AliDropship, I was manually adding items, and it would take about 10 minutes to add them. It would take another 3-5 minutes to add the content to the pages since it had to be custom, but with Alidropship, I can do all of this with a click of a button. I had hundreds of products on my site within an hour lol.
2. Running a Marketplace
When you know a bit more about website design and hosting, you can get into running your marketplace. One great thing about today's internet is you can buy a script that has the entire marketplace pre-coded and all you do is upload and edit it, so everything is your own 
You can go to a website like CodeCanyon.net or ThemeForest.net to find a pre-coded marketplace for you to use as your own, and then you can start marketing it to the masses using Facebook Ads, Adwords, and Bing Ads. You'll usually make between 5% and 20% commissions, which isn't bad since you're not doing the work or selling anything, so don't get greedy with it and help out as many sellers as you possibly can.
3. Website Rentals
A neat way to make money online in your spare time is to rent out entire websites to local businesses. This does take a little bit of website and SEO knowledge, but it can pay off after you read a few short ebooks on how to set up a Wordpress site and optimize it.
All you do is set up your sites, build the traffic a bit, and run some paid ads to get a quick boost in geo-targeted visitors to the site. You can then start to contact niche specific business owners in the area and tell then you'll forward all the leads to their website for $XXX per month. You can sell this as a lead generation service as well and charge $XX per quality lead, but if the company doesn't like what they're getting, they will stop paying you.
4. Working as a Freelancer
One thing I love about working online is I have a lot of digital skills that I can sell to other people that need help. I can write content for someone, I can help them with on page optimization, or I can help rank their websites with an overhaul of their SEO and bring in loads of traffic. The problem with this is that many people don't understand how to pull in traffic to get these types of clients, and that's where the freelancer marketplaces come in handy
You list your services, every single one you can think of, then sit back and wait for orders. You won't get many in the beginning because you're a new account, so you'll need to network yourself enough to pull in traffic. You will also have to talk to everyone you possibly can so they know you're a professional and are willing to get the job done. Do this in your spare time, and you can turn it into a full-time income
5. Affiliate Marketing
One of the biggest draws to making money online is when you don't need a product of your own, but you can still make money. Affiliate marketing is where you push other people's products or services and get a commission when a successful sale goes through. The commission structures vary depending on the product and the niche, but remember that physical products net you less commission over digital products.
I prefer pitching digital products in the SEO and Marketing niche since it's something I'm familiar with. I will find the ones that offer a slightly lower commission but give me month to month commissions as long as the user stays signed up. I tend to see more people sticking around for 4+ months and getting me four commissions instead of the single commission that's worth 1 1/2 times what the reduced monthly commissions are
Final Thoughts,
Making money online definitely isn't the easiest thing to do, so don't get discouraged if you think you're not doing anything positive within your first month. It took me years before I started making a full-time income online, and I wish I had started sooner! Take your time, build up your commissions gradually, and you never know if you'll be able to quit your job and go full time online later on in life
