Permanently ending double posting of the same reply or comment

Double posting of the same comment or reply has been a serious problem in either forum posting or blog posting but I just discovered that there is a way around putting an end to it here in the Clerks community.

I just recently discovered from one forum that I visited recently that it's absolutely impossible to post a comment or post/reply twice no matter whether it's by a mistake or any other reason whatsoever.

There was a software used in setting up the site that prevents a particular post to be posted twice by cropping it out immediately with the notification the post was a duplicate. I don't know the software name but I'm sure that the site administrator would look into it and find out.

It's just a mistake really. Sometimes your original post doesn't go through for some reason, so the human instinct is to just click the 'send' button multiple times to move it forward. Thus creating a double or sometimes triple post.

Yea thanks it happens most time and I Dont see any reason why someone will intentionally do that, sometimes it is caused by service.

This is the thing especially for those of us that is living in a country where power supply and network stability is an issue. It can happen to the person unintentionally and that is one of those things.

That happens to me all the time! I'll email something to my boss, and then my account will show that it hasn't gone through so I will send it again and then get an email from her basically saying "Oh, don't send things twice I already got this I'll email you if I didn't" but it's so annoying because half the time she doesn't even respond to emails asking questions in the first place! I understand the desire to not have repeat comments posted but like previously stated it's not always on purpose like some people seem to think. Sometimes it really is accidental!

You're right. This issue can be heavily depended on an internet provider that you have. Personally I used to have a bad cheap one before, and such issues were always happening. Apart from double posting, I used to have slow connection, interruption of it, high ping and etc. Lately I've changed a provider and everything stopped. An app to maintain it would be nice, as the thread creator mentioned.

True. This happened to me too! So frustrating. There are times that it is caused by the internet provider. Also, it can be caused by sudden electricity brownout in my area. The connection here in my area is unstable.

This is true. Not everyone wants to purposely double post, sometimes it's all thanks to the awful internet (I know this happens to me on Facebook and Line sometimes). But such a software is useful in eliminating it as double posts can be considered as spam.

It is unfortunate when a repeat post is made due to hitting the 'send' button severally by mistake. This can cause breaking of rules without intention.

It's true that sometimes it may be a mistake but there are still the possibility of someone who does it on purpose and claim it to be a mistake.

I do agree but i think such mistakes should be addressed since there's a solution to it which other sites are using. It's always a good thing to keep up with the competition right?

You're right because I experience this too.i see myself clicking and clicking thinking the first didn't go through but alas it gets posted for more than 3 times even. So some aren't mistakes but connection problem.

Yeah, I know of a site that doesn't let you post the same comment twice. It would automatically send you to a page saying that you're trying to post the same message. In another site double posting will result to a prompt saying that you can't post the same message.

Yea that's true it happens in some blog or forum, it help avoid double reply or comments.

Yes, everything happens for a reason. Whether it's a negligence or unintentional but it does exist. It's a mistake. No matter how careful we are. I guess, every other site has it's own ways to protect and filter any discrepancy. To avoid disturbance and hassle on later days.

Exactly! I see the setting as something that is very interesting and important to be used by any site owner in order to fully put an end to any kind of repeated posting, either by mistake or as a result of internet connection issues.

I noticed this on BMF one can't post twice there , there will always be a message to alert one that that message have been posted already.

It is not something that happens knowingly so if that application is used it will help stop those mistakes caused by either service or hanging phones.

There is every possibility of getting to do it on purpose. I'm not writing off the chances of it being done as a mistake because it's very possible as well.

But with such features installed in any website, the problem of repeatedly same posting will be eliminated completely.

Sometimes, it's just a mistake. I personally experience double posting the same comment because I thought that the internet is not working while I was on the other site. Well, with clerks sites, I notice that they block comments that are identically the same as the previous one, so it's a relief.

I'm definitely going to be very honest with you about my experience with such double posting. What I always do when such happens would be to edit and re write the post to another thing in order to avoid it being the same thing.

What I will have then would be back to back reply instead of repeated double posting.

There are many services one can create without reposting on the same thread.Actually,it is not fair unless done by error.

I think making new threads and the discussion needs to be daily for that to change. Because if there are no new threads, then replies would be keep on coming on same reply. And people would continue to communicate that way. So on that note I'd say double posting is another issue to deal with in the due process. But we will see how that one goes in near future.

I just recently accidentally double posted my comment on a particular topic. It's a mistake that could lead to some penalty. I do hope that there's a software could prevent users from double posting to avoid being penalized from the forum or other related web services.

It's just a mistake really. Sometimes your original post doesn't go through for some reason, so the human instinct is to just click the 'send' button multiple times to move it forward.

I had that happen to me once. Though it wasn't a double post, I'd copied and pasted text into the text input field. There was a delay and I thought I hadn't got the text so I copied it again and posted it three times. After I'd posted the message that is when I realized the mistake I'd made. I couldn't edit the text afterwards so I just had to let it be.

What @martin talks about I've seen it elsewhere. You can't accidentally double post anything. It is some plugin they used I think.

Oddly enough I never had such problems, nor with comments or threads.
The way I see it is that there can be two reasons behind it, lagging of the forum itself, or internet lag of the user. God knows.

That sounds like a great idea. I learn a lot from reading posts and comments on here. It could really put one off to stumble upon repeat comments and posts. I think admins and moderators on here should look more into this software and have it installed on here.

I just committed a double post and I really don't know what happened. I think sometimes when I'm posting and it takes too long to post I would hit the back button and go back to post it again not realizing that said comment has already been posted. So basically it's my fault.

I’ve used websites before where that would happen, or others where you get the message that you can’t make a second post within a certain timeframe (usually 1-2 minutes) because otherwise it looks like a spam poster. Having things like that built into forum software can certainly help cut down on things like double posting and spam posts.

I am experiencing that before when we have a slow internet connection. When you click the send button, it won't work. Then you have no choice but to double click it realizing that after loading it was sent two to three times. It's kind of frustrating by the way. Luckily a stable internet connection solved the problem but I'm not sure why would someone do double posting intentionally.

I made a double post before because I forgot to sign in before posting which is very disappointing because I won't receive a credit for it. I tried to copy and post it but nothing happened.

It sucks that there's no way to edit or delete your own post. I've double posted before but I didn't notice that my duplicate post was deleted or not. There wasn't any warning from the admin or anything. In fact, I've never seen an admin/moderator here since I started...

I hate it everytime I unintentionally double post. It always happens when it takes a long time for the comment to get posted. I do think that using a tool to prevent double posting would be good for the writers and the site.

Yes, me too. I find it really embarrassing. I immediately delete the double post whenever it happens. The hard part is when you can't delete it. That's why I'm glad forums are now able to prevent it from happening.

There are several forums that commit double posting for some reason. My suspicion is the slow internet access but not on our side though because it happens to almost everyone. When the server of the forum becomes slow and not responding to the post, the poster tends to click again hence it becomes double posting. That double posting happens only on 2 sites that are owned by 1 company.

I also agree that double posting is almost always because of internet issues.I have also seen forums that you cannot double post in because your second post will not be accepted. I agree that these forums should ensure that they have they have this software because double posting is often always an innocent mistake. Some forums will also penalize you for this, though it may not be your mistake.

Permanently ending doble posting of the same reply or comment: That true, the doble posting of the same reply or comment is not intended to do, it may because of the internet connection in which you think it was not posted yet and you did post it without knowing that the first post was successful. I want to know what is the best way to do if it will happen to avoid to be block.
