Write the reason you're deleting this FAQ
Forums can and will always be a good place to interact with people who may be interested in visiting your website or blog, even if that isn't the sole purpose of your being a member of that forum.
Most forum owners nowadays make it a lot harder to promote your sites directly preferring instead to limit you to a backlink on your profile page. That isn't so bad because depending on how you engage with the community, there'll be a number of people who'll want to know more about you and will for that reason visit your profile page. And maybe they just might visit your site.
But if you aren't satisfied with promoting your website primarily via your profile page, what are some good strategies to draw traffic to your site from the forums you actively participate in?

I'm not saying there aren't active forums out there. I'm just saying the number of active forums is a lot smaller compared with 15 years ago and the ones that did survive are basically unbreakable spam fortresses.
It is pretty much impossible to register and publish any type of link. You basically need to become an active member, reach a well-deserved level before gaining the authority to post links or promote something.
Also, most of the members are very wary of newcomers and will not trust you. Everything you first say and a post will be moderated and closely inspected. Moderators and Admins have an actual fear of anything even new promotions so they'll act against anything that is even closely similar.
This is why I believe wasting 4 weeks and becoming active on certain forums just to post a link that may or may not stick and may or may not bring you traffic is not really worth the gamble. I'm not saying you should stay away from forums, but the old way of posting on forums and building forum links (the non-spam way) is pretty much dead because of the level of difficulty it now involves.
I think all this effort can be put to better use, like guest posting. Or even trying posting on social networks, like Reddit for example. Actually, Reddit has both dofollow links and can bring you a huge number of visits, you can even go viral with Reddit. You just need to understand the community and know what kind of content to share there.
Hope that everything I said makes sense. If you guys have examples of successful forum based campaigns, please do share them below, especially the technique you used. In my opinion, everything regarding forums is pretty much whipped out ever since social media took off and ever since social media groups become a thing.
