If you site is on the first SERP for a keyword with good monthly searches, it'll bring you decent organic traffic, which in turn will affect your PageRank. So I guess the answer to your question here is SERPs.

PageRank doesn't get your website found, it doesn't get you traffic. SERPs does both of these so there's no way PageRank could ever be more important.

I think Page Rank is not being used by Google anymore. But anyway, for the sake of discussion, I don’t see the effect of Page Rank with the search engine results because that is the dominion of the algorithm. When a search engine evaluates a site for possible inclusion in the search list, it has a long list of factors to consider and Page Rank is not in that list.
