When you decide to go online and start your own website, or business, you'll need to know what to do prior to actually doing it. If you just wing it, you'll run into a lot of problems, and you'll likely have to back track of just run with what you got and hopefully it doesn't hurt you down the road. You'll need to think of everything prior to incorporating, so that means you need to know what you want your log to look like as well as what your domain name is going to be for your business. Knowing these things will start to push you in the right direction online, and it could actually make or break your business in the long run.
In this discussion I'll be going over some tips to help you choose the best logo design for your business, the best business name, and the best domain name for the business you're setting up. So, let's get started
Your Logo
When you think of your logo, you need to see it more as just an image that is at the top of your website, it's your business stamp that shows people they're in the right place. To pick the right design, you should do the following:
Study your competitors
When you look at your competitors, you'll usually be able to figure out a trend in the logos. More corporate type businesses will be clean and have sharp edges where fun websites will have fun images and rounded edges. Figure out what would be best for you, and run with it. You can always have a few done to show friends and family to figure out which one would be best.
Make something better
A lot of your competitors will likely use basic logos, or even just a text logo with their business name, so you can blow them out of the water pretty easily with a fancy design. You should always think you need a well designed logo, and you should never think "Eh, this will work just fine" because you want your logo to be a calling card to people who don't know who you are. If you're basic, people will think you're going to have basic services or products on your website, and they won't come visit. Make a better logo than your competitors and you will see people viewing you as an authority
Hire a freelancer if you can't make it yourself
This is what I do all of the time, mainly because I'm horrible with graphics, and I love most of the designs I receive. I actually order all of my logos through Sajeewa , because he's always done an amazing job, and he's far below the market average when it comes to pricing. I'd honestly pay twice the amount for his logos
Your Business Name
When you start thinking about a business model, sometimes you don't think of what you want to name it until you're ready to launch. Instead, what you should be doing is figuring out your business name when everything is in the concept stage, then figuring out if it's available
Make sure it's available before you take any steps forward
If you decide to start building your software or products and put a label on it with your business name, you might be pretty upset when you have to fix everything due to the name being taken. So, instead of back tracking to fix everything, make sure the name is available in your country before you start anything.
Make sure it's easy to say
Your business name has to be easy to say, so people can talk about it easier, obviously. If you have a difficult business name to pronounce, or it's really long, you won't see as many people talking about it or just tagging you online becuase they won't know how to spell it lol. So, make it easy and professional at the same time, your visitors will thank you for it
Make it easy to brand
Branding is easier with business names that are shorter, and easier to pronounce, so do just that. Make sure it's available, easy to say, and easily brandable so everyone will remember who you are and come back time and time again
Make it similar to the domain you want to purchase
If you plan on running a website, as well as a physical location, you'll need to make sure the business name is available as a domain as well. Plenty of webmasters run into this problem because a business name is available, then they purchase it, and now they're stuck because the domain isn't available. Don't worry, you can still do something similar to your business name and be just fine. Usually, you'll want to get the exact business name as your domain, but it's not always a deal breaker if you can't. If you want to brand it as easy as possible, try to get the same domain and business name so you don't confuse anyone.
Your Domain Name
Your domain name is more than just something people type in to find your website. It's the first thing that people identify you with, so you'll need to think this out because people will see you as if you were your domain. Your design and everything else comes secondary when it comes to an online image, so be sure your domain is on point to boost your authority over time.
Find something short and sweet
If you want to get a great domain related to what you're doing, make sure it's short and sweet, this will help you all across the board. You will see people are typing up your domain name for their friends without looking it up, you will notice it's easier to brand, people will be able to type it directly into their address bar and this will increase your traffic, and it's just a good idea to have it short so you get the best domain possible.
Of course, if your business name is 10 words long and you're not worried about website traffic to make money, you can make it whatever you want lol
Make sure it's easy to spell
A domain that is easy to spell is always better than something that is even a little difficult. If it's easy to spell, you will notice people sending their friends messages without looking up the correct spelling, and this will boost your sales exponentially. An easy domain name always does better than a long difficult one, so make sure it's easy to remember and spell
In conclusion
Choosing the right business name, domain name, and having the right logo design is the first step towards success. You can have the best of everything, but if your business name and domain name are super long and confusing, you will see that your success is going to be difficult to grasp. Make everything short and sweet, and be sure your logo is high quality and fits your niche so you can have better success in a shorter amount of time
