A lot of people are getting into the influencer marketing scene and trying to cash in. It doesn't matter if they're the influencer or if they are the ones hiring the influencer to advertise for them, everyone is trying to make some extra cash here and there. To be an influencer, you basically need one thing and one thing only, a decent sized following who trusts your every word. You could be talking about any industry on planet earth, or even something more cosmic, as long as you're honest and post quality content you will build a following over time.
Building the trust of your followers isn't the easiest thing to do because they don't want to see dozens of advertisements each month on your accounts, so you'll actually lose money in the beginning of your influencer journey. You'll need to continuously post information that people want to read, see, like, comment on, etc. If you're just posting cat pictures, and you're not a funny cat meme page, you won't get the following you're targeting.
Let's talk about Instagram, since there's a lot of influencers there, you'll need to post for a while until you start to see a lot of people following you. You'll need to have high quality images along with the proper tags and descriptions in order to get people to actually see your images and then follow you so they get updated later on with your posts. The beauty of this is that you can link to your website on your profile and get traffic directly off the platform itself
The beauty of becoming an influencer, within your niche, is that you can sell pretty much anything to your following and they will buy it because they trust you. On the other hand, you'll need to only push offers that are legitimate so you don't hurt your own reputation and people begin to unfollow you. A lot of bigger influencers will ask to test the product or service prior to posting about it, because they want to make sure it's high quality and not going to annoy their following. If you get to this point, you've made it as an influencer, but it takes time and you can start your influencer journey by doing the following 3 points:
Firing up the facebook advertising machine
To build up your social media profiles, you should think about running a PPC campaign to bring in a quick wave of followers. You can target people who are interested in what you're posting about, and they will likely follow you since it costs them nothing to do so. If they come to your profile, through a PPC ad, they will already be interested in what you're posting.
You can get your CPC down to $0.01 depending on the countries you're targeting, which means you can get a massive following in a short amount of time. Remember, if you're targeting 3rd world countries, you won't get many sales if you're own services cost $100+ and that's just because for them it will seem like much more money than something we can afford. A bonus for targeting 3rd world countries is that you can build a following quickly, and people who can afford what you're selling will then see the masses already liking your content, and they will follow you as well. Think about it, people are sort of like sheep and want to see others are already liking you before they do it themselves, so get those initial followers that won't convert so you can get the ones who will convert to follow you
Working with other influencers to build your own following
A great way to build up your trust within the industry is to follow and comment on other influencers posts, without trying to hijack their followers. You'll actually be trying to boost your own following through their followers seeing your comments, then clicking through, and following you. The only thing is that you can't make it look like a blatant advertisement like "Hey everyone! If you like this profile, you'll love mine! (link here)" because that's just cheap and shady. Post a quality response, without trying to funnel people to your own profile, and people will start to come to you.
You can also pay influencers to post a advertisement for you, which they will gladly do for you if you're throwing money at them lol. What you'll need to do is figure out who the top influencers are and see if they accept promotions for a small payment. Most will say yes, unless they're building up their profiles for their own business, and now you'll need to negotiate a reasonable price per post. I will contact a minimum of 10 other influencers and ask them how much they charge, then I'll get an average and try to pay that amount to the people who are asking for more and I'll pay less to the people who are asking for a lower amount per post. You'll sometimes get rejected by the higher priced people, mainly because they don't care if they're making money off of their posts, so avoid using them.
Running your own blog or website
If you want to be seen as a professional, you'll need to run your own website that is branded with your name. I recently bought a domain that is just my name, my actual name and not a pen name, because I'm going to start getting into the content writing niche pretty hard. You'll need to set up your website, it doesn't have to be super fancy, you can use a basic wordpress theme that has some service pages. If you don't have your own website, you won't always be seen as a professional, because everyone now has a website lol
Set up your website, link it to all of your social profiles, and start to post whenever and wherever you can on social media platforms within the industries you're targeting. You will strategically put icons on your website that link to each of your social media platforms, so people can click through and then follow you wherever they are at. Not everyone loves using Facebook, and they could prefer Instagram, so if they find your PPC ad aimed at your homepage and see an Instagram link, they will think "OHHHH!!! I can follow them on Instagram because I like it better over there!" and BOOM! You just got an additional follower from a different platform who likely wouldn't have searched for you if they didn't have the ad right in front of their face
In conclusion
Becoming an influencer is definitely difficult to do, but it can be done, and you should always try to become an influencer within your industry. I'm not an influencer within my industry, but I hope to be in the next 6 months to a year, mainly because I don't really run any accounts under my actual name since I use a pen name that is sort of branded for me lol. I chose to run my own name, instead of a pen name, because it's easier to follow a person and not a made up name So get to work, set up your website and some PPC campaigns that will help you convert some quick followers and also be posting quality content the entire time
