Various times throughout the year I always get asked how someone can find a 9 to 5 job as a blogger. Many of these people are just starting out, but there are a few that have been blogging for a while and just want the job security a 9 to 5 position can offer them. I get it, you want a stable income and possibly insurance to help you out if you do end up getting sick or hurt. At times I wish I had a 9 to 5 so I didn't have to pay hundreds of dollars every month on insurance and I had job security lol In the end, there's nothing bad about getting a day job as long as it's something you love doing. I know that I love my job as a freelance writer who has contracts with companies to do blog posts as well as do my own thing on the side (SEO and Writing for clients). But getting to this point in my career wasn't easy since I didn't really know what I was doing and no one paved the path I was taking. I have to make my own trail and learn from my mistakes, so hopefully you don't do the same things I did lol
If you are like me a few years ago, you're always looking for your next blogging job. I've worked for many companies and eventually started freelance blogging for random website and blog owners as a way to make some extra money on the side. What I didn't know is that the freelance blogging would turn into a full time career and that I wouldn't have to worry as much about what my next job was. Sure, in the beginning it was rough because I didn't have many clients, making my income spotty at best, but I stuck it out while working a 9 to 5 as well as freelancing until my freelancing was making me enough money that I could pay all of my bills and still have some money on the side for emergencies
In this discussion I'll be going over a few ways you can land your first day job as a blogger. It's not an easy thing to do, you will likely get rejected a ton of times, but if you start now you can usually land your first job in a short amount of time (depending on how diligent you are).
Download ZipRecruiter
I actually stumbled upon this when I was looking up blogging jobs. ZipRecruiter is an app for your smartphone that lets you search various listings across the internet for your target keyword. When you search for your keyword, it will pull results from a bunch of job related marketplace type websites and have them all in one convenient place, your smart phone
You can filter the results based on location and income offers. I like to stay local because I can usually land a job quicker if I can sit down with someone the week they talk to me over the phone. If I have to travel for an interview, it usually takes some additional time and the employer might not want to sit down and chat in 2 or 3 weeks because they want to fill the position tomorrow. You will be limiting the amount of positions you can apply for if you only search within 25 miles, but you will increase the amount of contact requests you get exponentially since you are a local blogger
You will usually need a resume when submitting to the employers on ZipRecruiter, because remember, they are businesses and they will need to weed out less qualifying applicants than yourself
Go on Job Marketplaces
If you primarily look for jobs by using your PC or laptop, you can go to job marketplaces like Monster.com and see what they have listed. This option is better for people who don't want to go the ZipRecruiter route and have all their information easily accessible through their computers, and not their smart phones.
I try to be careful when I'm submitting anything on these marketplaces because they have a tendency to sell off your information to people that want to sell you anything they can. I've heard horror stories of someone submitting to 10 different jobs in one day and after a few months they were getting 5 phone calls from people all over the world trying to sell them "Advanced Schooling Sessions" or something along those lines. To avoid anything like this, you can simply use a dummy email and phone number that routes to your real ones. This will allow you to just close the email or cancel the pay as you go phone if you do start to get those annoying spammy solicitor emails and phone calls.
Contact businesses to see if they're hiring
This is probably one of my favorite ways to get a job started. It amazes me how many businesses aren't blogging or adding content to their subpages in order to please their visitors and increase their search engine rankings at the same time. Almost all of the companies that I talk to aren't doing this, so that shows you how many job opportunities are out there and even the employers don't know they need you yet lol.
When you contact a business, be sure to use their contact form to send them an email. This will ensure your email gets through to someone who has access to the decision making accounts, usually. You can always go on LinkedIn and find the CEO or President of the company to see if they have their emails publicly viewable, then email them directly from your personal email with what you'd like to be doing for them, blogging and content generation.
This method of finding a blogging day job isn't as successful because a lot of the businesses you'll be contacting don't have any intention of hiring someone to do this, even if they aren't doing it themselves. The beauty of this is that you can let them know why it's so important to be blogging and adding content to their website/blog, which will open up their eyes to hiring you and loving what you'll be helping with I've actually gotten content writing contracts with some big corporations after I told them how optimized content will increase their search engine rankings, resulting in more traffic to their websites and in turn make them more money. They saw it as spending some money to make more money, which is what all businesses will need to be doing if they want to stay successful
If all else fails, make your own job
This works well if you don't have any bills to pay. If you are out of a job and need to pay bills, I would suggest finding a paying job, any job, and working there until you can get enough income coming in through blogging and then put in your two weeks notice.
You can set up various services here on SEOclerks and get some sales, but they won't be right away. You will have to build up your clientele and always over deliver in order to keep them happy. I recently started a writing service to build up my clientele and it went smooth for the first month so far. I got a few new clients who loved my work and they are starting their second round of purchases as we speak I actually have 1 order that I will be working on after I finish this discussion
You can price your work at whatever you want, just remember that the lower your prices, the more work you will get usually. Everyone expects top notch work, even if you're selling top notch services for $1. Price your work for what you think it's worth. I have my 500 word articles priced at $12 and I have add ons that people can purchase as well. Now this $12 is much higher than the $3 to $5 articles you can get for 500 words of content, but my content tends to be much higher quality as well as over delivered
In Conclusion:
There are a massive amount of blogging jobs out there, but the employers will stick to the bigger websites and post there. They won't come looking for you when they need a new employee, so you will need to search them out and get your applications, with resumes, fine tuned and submitted so you can get those needed call backs for a possible interview and then job placement It's not a difficult thing to do, but people will say it is because it does take some time, so be diligent and stick with it in order to succeed

I guess if you want to work as a full-time blogger or writer, it depends a lot if you want to work from home or you will need to go to a physical office.
I would prefer working from home and the way I would find such a job is directly contacting medium and big publications asking for a full-time online job as a writer. If you have a good enough record and you really are a good writer and not hugely expensive I guarantee you that many of those publications will e more than interested in what you have to say. Thanks for the ZipRecruiter tip, I didn't know about this app. Nowadays I rely mostly on LinkedIn to look for new gigs and find new clients, but any other way is more than welcomed.
