Making money online isn't easy, but you can build your wealth over time

We're all chasing that big pay day, every day, when it comes to working online.  We work our fingers to the bone typing up articles for our websites, building backlinks to increase our rankings and building relationships with others in order to catapult ourselves into the stratosphere of success.  But what people don't know, is that success online takes a lot of time unless you're one of the very lucky few who get it right the first time.

When I started off I had $50 and a free website.  I dumped all $50 into Adwords and barely got my money back.  I then kept bootstrapping all of my profits, literally every penny, and after about a year I was making enough money from new clients and returning ones, that I could move out on my own and quit my job at the same time.  I didn't see some profits and think "I can quit now because I'm going to be rich in no time!" because I knew that was probably one of the dumbest ideas I could have come up with.  I actually see some younger kids saying they're going to quit their jobs when they get a few sales coming in, but they don't know that their main income stream could dry up tomorrow and then they have to beg for their jobs back.

Making money online definitely isn't as easy as all these facebook ads or Guru's try to make it sound.  If they told you the truth behind how much work goes into it, you wouldn't sign up for those services, would you?  Probably not lol.  The people selling a system to "Help" you make money online are only making money off of you.  That is usually their main income stream because they are preying on the weaker minded newbies who have dollar signs in their eyes and don't know how to sift through sales copy that is written in a way to get you to sign up.  The content is written in a way to lift your spirits and hopes so much that you'll part with your hard earned money for a chance to make even more, it's sad actually Making money online isn

What you'll need to do:

Focus on one income stream at a time, not multiple ones.  This way you will know if something is going to work out or if it's going to fail and you need to move on.  Think of it as the "low hanging fruit" method when it comes to targeting keywords.  Find a method that will bring in a few bucks each day and scale it up if possible.  Get 10 of those going and you will have a nice income stream in not time.  You may only be making $10 or $15 a day from one website, but if you can replicate that for multiple niches, you will have a goldmine in no time Making money online isn   Use your profits to build up new websites and push them into profits.  When you have profits, it's easier to make money because you don't have to worry as much like before when you would use your paychecks to take a chance on a website.

After you have some low hanging fruit websites pulling in profits, start thinking of a bigger idea that would take longer and more money to turn into a profit machine.  Sure it will take a lot more time, money and effort in order to pull in a lot of money, but you won't get rich just thinking about what you want to do lol.  Start up a niche based news website and add massive amounts of content to it, then build high quality backlinks aimed at your articles.  You could also set up a service type website and sell something that will benefit your buyers.  Another thing is to set up some sort of membership system that allows people to come in and benefit from what is within your members dashboard.  The options are limitless, just be sure that there is interest in the website idea before you jump in and spend a bunch of money on it's development.  You might love the idea, but the majority of people around the world may see it as useless.  Post on facebook and get some honest feedback from your friends and family, be sure to ask them to be honest lol.

After about a year of hard work, you will usually be profitable.  You might even have VA's (virtual assistants) doing the majority of the backend work so that you can focus on more important things like making money.  I know it's possible because I've done it many times.  I will set up website and make them popular among their niches, then I will take the profits from that website and put it into a second in a different niche.  And the beauty of this is that I already have all the code from the first website which means I save money on the design Making money online isn

In Conclusion:
Making money online takes time.  No one will be successful on day 1 unless you're getting a loan or have a sugar daddy/momma that is paying for all your advertising and marketing.  If you are doing this yourself, do your research and know what you're doing before you do it.  You can be successful, but you will definitely hit some walls and you will need to sit down and think about terminating the idea or pushing through to see how successful it can really get.  Just use your head before you make any decisions with your heart Making money online isn

I think once you start to earn money you have to automate the process. Because if you don't then things are not going to be that good enough. You will continue to work and struggle. So this has to change and you have to put some profit back into the business. That seems to be a good idea for those who are trying to scale up the business. I am in this process right now and struggling. I wish to automate but I am limited in many ways in that case. So that has to change sooner or later.

That is the dream from everyone but I don't think it's easy. Automating your earning opportunities will mean that you can earn a passive income but it's just not easy to do because you can't automate a few of the earning opportunities like paid posting or surveys. It must be great to be able to develop a blog and automate affiliate earnings because that would be amazing to be able to make money without having to do too much work.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes. Passive and also delegated type of business. I have my share of issues in this case where I have to make sure to get regular clients. I think it depends on business model. Some can be automated. And some require you to constantly add input to the business. So automating is a bit harder in that case. I don't consider posting and surveys as business, it's hobby money.

I started working online as a writer, I published articles on niche content sites. I did not earn upfront on most of these sites. However, my articles build my passive income. I still earn from the articles that I published in 2012. This is the best thing about online writing. I also work as an internet marketer and web designer, however, in order to earn from these jobs I have to work every day (as long as I have the job offer). I built a website for the purpose of affiliate marketing. My intention was to automate the earning process. If I get visitors on this website, and the visitors buy products, I will automatically earn commissions. However, this step is not working properly.

I think these days article monetization does not earn much. We are lucky that old articles do earn to date. But it seems like these days it takes more time for the wealth building. Also the time it takes for building the article based website is something we have to consider. I think wealth development over time means it takes years to build that level of stability.

UNless you are able to build a site like facebook, you will never become a millionaire while working online. However, I think there is nothing impossible in this world. Hubpages was established by a guy called Paul Edmundson in 2007. In less than 10 years Hubpages was able to acquire Squidoo for millions of dollars. If you are patient you have chances of building wealth.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
Yes. The thing is Paul and others could be millionaire. But they borrowed VC Money. So they must be not that rich as they are being viewed. I agree that writing alone won't make anyone rich. But that's something we learn over a period of time. I guess we have to check out on those things over a period of time.

I can’t think of a way to automate forum posting because that is my main line for now that I think I will be struggling (if that is your description) until I find a way to shorten the work. That is the reason why I am studying affiliate marketing because it can earn more and probably can be my livelihood unlike forum posting that I earn coins only and not even good enough to buy my lunch.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Forum posting jobs are not meant to be automated. You have to be normal in some places so as to keep sanity. Because that way you can make new contacts. So it's better to use the forum posting normally and use the links that benefits your context. So if you want to get into affiliate marketing, you have to automate other technical things.

Very insightful indeed. Those websites that tell you to pay them money to make even more money are downright scams. You need to reap where you sow. Nothing is free in this world. Unless you were born into a rich family where you don't need to work a day in your life, you have to work towards your goal. Newbies don't always have a realistic picture. You need to have patience rather than money for you to reach your goal. It's not about when you reach your goal, but about how you reach your goal.

Nice article.
Making money online takes a lot, it needs a mixture of smartness and handwork. because you will work for every penny you earn online. that's why i laugh at people who think making money online is some kind of child's play or a get rich. that's why most of them get into this scam site like piplogo etc. where they offer you $5 dollars per signup and huge amount of money for completing shitty tasks, but they later discover they can't withdraw their money.
To make money online, you need a marketable digital skill, and much brain power in conjunction with hard work because there is no free money on cyber space. you will work for every single damn penny you earn. is that simple?.

Making money online is really difficult. I started working online 8 years back and at the start it was very difficult for me to earn. I then started exploring tutorials and looked for ways to earn much faster online. It took me more than 2 years before I started my online business. It was not that easy to convince customers to buy my products in the beginning but over the years I have learnt and things have change. Today I am quite successful with my online business. I am also working as an online tutor and so far I am quite contended with this job.

Earning money is not at all easy especially nowadays because of how many people are looking to make money online. There was a sudden influx of people looking to earn money online and because of that companies started to pay less for work. And that was because of the fact that there were so many people willing to work that there was always someone that was willing to work for much less in order to secure that job. But it's great to earn a tiny bit of money on the side, nothing too big but enough to buy a few extra stuff on the side.

I've come to realize this as well, which is a really unfortunate turn of events for freelances online. I'm glad that my skillset sits primarily in an offline avenue where I can earn significantly more than I would marketing myself online.

As with most things today, it's becoming increasingly more important to not only specialize in your skills, but to also make sure you're effective at what you do and you're staying ahead of the curve. I think that's the best way to get an edge on the competition and put yourself in a good spot in the market.

This is what I keep saying to myself. :'( With all these tight competition specially in getting clients, you can't be so sure that you are the only one and everyday, there would be someone who will be doing the same thing as you. And it always depends on how much time and effort, and patience of course, you are willing to risk and spend just to be successful over time.

There is no internet gold mine out there despite what many people try to tell you. You need to follow the tips that make sense and be ambitious and dedicated enough to put them into place. These are some of the ways you can make money. Most people are successful with a combination of work and good luck. Also, trial and order may allow you to see what is going to work in your particular situation.

I am finding out about this the more my newbie self explores the world of freelancing and blogging. Trial and error is basically my modus apparatus at this point. I do learn a lot from these forums and from chatting with fellow freelancers, but it is a challenge trying to figure out how to supplement my income or to make a living in general with my online aspirations and activities.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

Yes, it is a learning process. It is great to have this forum as many of the people on here are old hands at making money online, and it is very helpful to find out from them what has and has not worked for them. Some great strategies are offered.

And so the apprentice meets the mentor, so to speak. In any case, I am sure that the market here is totally flooded, and so the competition is through the roof, which means people who pay freelancers can lower the prices. My roommate, who is in IT and makes a ton of money, calls us the fifty cent army. Making pennies an hour at some of these online gigs. Still, though, I am not discouraged.

Great tips here, and I agree completely, especially at the part about focusing on just one task at a time. When I was starting out I focused on too many things at once and I just ended up getting burned out and also not particularly successful at any specific task. Nowadays I am much smarter in my approach and although my methods may not be perfect, I at least don't have too much thoughts cluttering my mind and my moves have a bit more direction. Granted, I believe there is no set way to success and both working on either singular or multiple income streams can end up working, but I think focusing on just one at a time has a lot more benefit to it.

Taking money online is not easy to do. You have to go through research if its site is legit or scam to earn money online and it takes time and a lot of efforts. But there are so many ways to earn money online because there are many websites that will offer you a job online but you have to work on it.

Very good points! I'm a frugal person already when it comes to money, and I have a couple different accounts set up for various income sources. My offline freelancing goes into a business account where it accumulates until I absolutely need it, or I want to make a business purchase. I find that having this separate account removes my desire to spend the money and makes into a "rainy day fund" instead.

As with anything, if you get your business model down pat and start building your clients and body of work, you can definitely make a good amount of money in no time. I'm getting really tired of doing wedding videos, but the demand in my city is high (because there are only three or four of us who do video professionally in a city of 600,000+ people), and the money is really is really nice to have!

I am doing pretty much the same. I have one personal and another proprietorship account. Both are earning money depending on where I am active the most. And based on the activity. You have to find out what may or may not work for you. I think saving is something very essential even for business or freelancing. I personally think one income source at a time per day is the way to build wealth. Diversification in everyday life is harder.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

TheArticulate
Great points. Diversification can be profitable, but you you're right, you can't just jump straight out of the gate with it. It's far better to focus your attention and energy on one source until it's built up to a point that you can hand it off to someone else to manage for you or sell it, and start focusing on the next income source.

I've found that most effective for myself is to have a full time job and do as much freelancing on the side as I can manage, which has made sure I've always had plenty of money to live off of.

Are you sure you want to delete this post?

overcast
Yes keeping full time job and then building those funds and investing into something else definitely helps. I have found out that keeping more money into savings help to build wealth over time. It may not be easy though. Another thing is getting into niche where there are lot of customers. That way earning speed can be increased.

I think it is very smart to have different accounts for different purposes in your online business exploits. I was pushing everything through one Pay Pal account, and one bank account, but then I needed more versatility in how I was dispersing my trickling income, so I started delineating my accounts per purpose of my earning venues, if that makes sense.

In 2006, I discovered that we could work online and make money. This was when I found out Gather, a social blogging site that paid the users for publishing articles on the site. I never cashed out on that site. A year later, I discovered Helium, a writing site for freelance writers. I was able to withdraw my Helium earnings, however, it took me over a year to reach the $25 cash out threshold. Over the years, I published articles on various writing sites as well as on my blogs, sold articles and ebooks to the client. My experience tells me, you cannot grow rich working online, however, you can make online work a good source of income. Some people are earning more than they would be earning from a reputed company, however, that's just an exception. Most of the people end up quitting.

I love your honest approach to making money online. I can't stand the people who say that they are making millions over night buy my ebook and people fall for it and spend hundred or thousands of dollars and make nothing back in return. I know I said it on here before, but I know of a guy who spent $40k on a website that never went anywhere.
So in the end it doesn't matter how little or how much money that you put into a website. It's either going to work or not work and there is no rhyme or reason on what makes a website work. But like you said the key is if you do find something that works you need to reinvest it into new websites and build a portfolio.

Thanks for sharing. Making money online is really not that easy it takesa lot of courage and determination to get want you want. So many online works
you can do but unfortunately some don’t pay and some scam and other online job
pay penny. Blogging, online business like selling different items is also a
good start. I think I have lot more to learn how to earn more in online
business.

Wow, these are some great points to ponder and Razzi, you've really opened up my appetite to online marketing. You may even have helped me with an idea for a website; sugardaddys/mammys.com! Those scam websites are slowly making themselves very obvious bearing the same trendy approaches. Asking for deposits up front before any actual delivery, featuring a star struck, enthusiastic host and staged actors to falsely justify their fake earnings and if you search for them on the world wide web, you'd see their names already plastered on various scam alert websites, some with the victims who have fallen to their lawlessness. It's a slow but confidently learning process to acknowledge the various avenues and research and apply what you've understood and learned so far but it's much better than being scammed. I'd rather take my time and earn a few bucks here and there than to rush and waste tons of money on a would be get rich scheme only to discover that I've been robbed! Eventually, everything will come together and business will evolve. As much as there's an influx of people joining the online arena, there are also new ways and strategies developing that will provide even more opportunities. This is the process and purpose embedded within our very existence, the inevitable change, the unconditional adaptation and the fruitful rewards that we will embrace as a result of our persistence and successful development as a result.

My plan is to put up my own blog with sponsors. If that would be a success, perhaps it can be my bread and butter when I retire from my job. Right now I am trying to get enough exposure in social media by interacting with the posts of my friends so that when I need to promote something, they would react favorably to my post. I know that it’s not easy to earn much but with perseverance and tenacity in learning, I guess we can do it.
