Changing my blog from blogspot.com to a dot com

please, I need to change my free domain blog from a blogspot.com to a paid hosting like a dot.com.i know how to go about buying the domain name and hosting from GoDaddy, But my problem is how to change the name on my blog to the dot.com

That's a great tutorial galegatling. I gave you an upvote so the thread starter can see it and follow the video. I think that's very well explained and easy to follow.

I think that you're doing a good job by switching over to .com. It is the most popular domain extension and it will probably end up increasing your traffic since people always use .com if they're searching for things.

I agree. I think some people have this thing that I call 'blogspot phobia' LOL! It's like, whenever they see a blogspot in the url they will be turned off or discouraged eventually because they might think that it contains crappy post or something. They are used to getting their informations or something that they are looking for on plain text urls instead of blogspot/date/whatever/morewhatever.

I guess you could just change the name on your web address to dot.com. I don't know if it is more complicated than that, but hopefully people that are more knowledgeable about such things will be able to give your better advice in regard to this.

When you will set up your domain name server with your blog spot- than it will be change. You have to buy a domain also for your blog spot. After buy the domain- you have to set up your domain name server with your blog spot.

That is the advantage of being on Blogger, according to a blogger friend, because the use of the blog is for free and there are even free themes to choose from. Another advantage is the knowledge of Adsense because Blogger is owned by the same Google who owns Blogger. It is not easy to move to your own private site because you have to pay for the domain name and the hosting.

First, you need to purchase your domain. Sign into your Blogger dashboard. Go to Settings and amend under Publishing.
Type the url of the domain you’ve purchased and click save.The rest of the steps will be provided by the domain seller.

I think this is a good move. You may have to make sure that you have properly redirected the URLs. I would suggest moving from blogspot to your own hosting of wordpress. That way you'd have more SEO control. Also more control on the design part. That's something I have found out to be working for me. It won't cost much for hosting on hawkhost or linode or liquidweb.

Excellent advice. It's easy to go into the Blogspot dashboard and put in the domain name and redirect the URL. But if you're going to invest in a domain, while that is a significant change; having “more SEO control” is the real game changer. Not buying the domain.

Yes and besides on hosting sites like hawkhost or say linode, you get to learn the control panel in few hours. So I don't think the issue lies with the learning curve anymore. You just have to start somewhere. So investing into blogspot does not sound reasonable to me anymore. I'd surely not invest that much time.

As long as I have not purchased my domain, I will use the free platforms and whatever they offer. If or when I decide to make the transition, I will consider having full control, not partial control.

Frankly, I think if you are a beginning blogger trying to test the waters and you are learning, then you should take advantage of the free platforms. When I started blogging, some of my blogs got deleted. Ouch! It was a lesson learned the hard way. But I was glad of having learned before investing in buying a domain and ruining that "name". "A good name is more precious than silver and gold." Your domain name is really your good name and your good reputation. Is it not?

True the domains on the free platform are not required. but if you choose to go with the paid hosting then you are going to need the domains. So for that reason I am guessing it's better to get domain. But initially for earning few dollars here and there not much need of the domain. You just need regular income from blog to justify that.

You need to purchase a domain, which means you have to pay monthly or in other periods of time, something like a rent to a home. Works the same way, if you continually pay the rent, you may use the domain, when you stop paying it, you lose the right of "your site".

You have to buy a domain name and then do what fishmonk had taught you. However if you lapse paying the renewal fee of your domain, your site vanished! You have to be careful.

I had no idea it was that complicated or so many steps to follow. I am glad that you got good advice about what to do, because obviously I was clueless. It is always good to ask because invariably someone knows. Especially in a group such as this, you will get some good information.

You can do this in various ways. One of the ways to do this is going to your blogspot setting and change the url. Another way of doing this is through domain redirection. You can redirect your blogspot blog to your new domain.

Pardon me for my ignorance. But may I know why you are changing the host provider of your blog? What is wrong with Blogspot? I am asking this because I have a solid plan to put up my own blog in the near future, I'm just sorting out things because I don't want to start something that I cannot finish. Anyway, my plan is to avail the free hosting of Blogspot so I am kind of interested to know why you are leaving Blogspot.

That's because blogger.com gives less control over to the website owner. They don't give you control over SEO aspects. You can't edit robtos txt file. You can't choose permalinks. You can't extend file storage etc. So you see lot of limitations are there. I think for this reason many people are moving to joomla, wordpress, ghost etc. This way they have more control over their website.
