When working in the SEO field I always get asked how long it normally takes to see an increase in rankings from an SEO campaign and I tell every client the same thing... It takes time to do the work we do and there's no guarantee that you will see an increase in rankings right away. Some clients are ok with that while others decide to stop talking to me because another SEO company told them they could get rankings tomorrow lol.
What's the difference between quick rankings and long term rankings?
Well there could be a couple different explanations for this. Quick rankings could mean that you have a splash page up in a day and are building a lot of links to it in order to rank quickly but you know it's going to be a dead website in the next week. This is called a churn and burn website because you normally get penalties and it's easier to build a new site than get the penalty removed. Quick rankings could also be considered when you are targeting low difficulty keywords that you can rank for in a month or less. Long term rankings could be when you do great linking and it ranks you for a long period of time. Another form of long term rankings, which is less likely to be said, is when it takes longer to rank for a keyword.
Why can't you guarantee me quick rankings?
I don't guarantee my clients quick rankings because it's an unforeseeable timeline and I can't read the future lol. If I were to be able to figure out exactly how long it would take before something ranked I would start working on the specific niches in order to pull in loads of traffic. As the easier niches were pulling in millions of dollars each month I would then invest into more difficult niches and wait a few years to rank #1 and be a billionaire muahahaha! Quick rankings don't come to those who are impatient... And they're rarely ever seen.
What's a good timeline to expect my rankings to increase?
Well that's kind of difficult because I don't know your niche and that's the main thing when it comes to rankings. Well the niche itself isn't the ranking factor but the companies and SEO freelancers targeting that niche will increase it's difficulty and that will result in longer time spans when it comes to ranking highly.
