For some time now I've seen a trend, big companies like Facebook are trying to offer a complete package by including all this features making sure you won't leave their apps for something else.
This is especially true with Facebook, it also buy every possible competitor before it gets too popular, for me this means one thing, Facebook is looking to offer a complete app package and just like WeChat from China in wants to turn everything it has into a similar platform, copying WeChat business model.
And this makes sense, why should anyone leave the Facebook app if it offers everything the user needs: videos, group chats, social network, text messages, voice and video calls, maps, news, planning and calendar and much more.
Already this trend can be very clearly seen, people are reluctant to try new messenger type apps and why should they go to the trouble of learning a totally different platform when they can just stick with what they already know.
I think the key to all of this is to keep it simple but offer a complete package if Facebook plays everything right with this, Google is doomed, not now, but 5 years from now. What do you think?

Facebook on the other hand as a lot more balls it seems, win it or lose it type of attitude, Facebook wants to take over the whole Internet and this may truly happen or fail miserable, I don't tink there is any "in-between" when it comes to Facebook. In 5 years Google would probably be in the same place, relatively, I don't think Google has the "guts" to experiment with a new social network that can take over the world la Facebook did.
