Pinging New Content vs Fetching As Google

I have posted a number of times about contradicting information from different people and I have just come across a topic that might be nice to debate.

Quote recently, in one of the discussion threads here I was told by a member that pinging new or updated content was not necessary and I am sure that the recommendation was just to Fetch As Google in Google Search Console.

Now today I have been told by another member in one of the discussions that it is not necessary to Fetch As Google but pinging is the way to go.

So what do you think? Is pinging the way to go or do you Fetch as Google?

Or maybe like me you do both?

Hmmm both have their benefits, but I would usually just play it safe and do both

You're not going to get knocked for pinging too much, like some people think. If your website was devalued because it was pinged too much, I could ping all my competitors non stop using PingFarm.com and get their websites blacklisted lol.

As long as your website is set up with good interlinking, you'll be fine. Ping a few pages and do a few other things in order to get the spiders coming in to index After the first few weeks you won't have to do much in terms on indexing because Google will now know your website is alive and they will come back frequently to check for updates and new content. I would say that after the first month of posting, pinging, and fetching content Google will decide to come back at least once a week to see your new content and index what they think should be shared with all the users of their search engine. Well, that goes for every search engine actually.

Just by posting on facebook, google+, twitter, etc. about your new content will get your content seen within the day since the search engines are always stalking big social platforms. Just think of where the search engines are looking and post there. Think of it as fishing you want to get your lure in front of the fish and dangle it so they bite. When they bite you win If you didn't get that, the fish was the search engine and your content was the lure lol

Thanks Razzy!

Yes I have been pinging and fetching as Google because my content is ranking and I have always done that.. so my way of thinking says if something is working well don't change it.

Just to clarify Razzy, you are saying that there is nothing wrong with doing both, however I wouldn't really need to anymore since my website is indexed and Google will be crawling my site regularly anyway?

I had stopped sing pinging since Google Fetch become available. It takes a couple of minutes to get a new article index, so why bother with pinging?
