A lot of people are worried about being blackhat withe their backlinking. Some people are even worried about being grey hat because they are afraid of their rankings being dropped.
If you want to do it 100% whitehat and get people to link back to your home page or sub pages, you'll need to do a few things first
- If you don't have traffic, you won't get any natural links. It's plain and simple because these are the people who are going to be sharing your pages or posting links on their blogs and websites because they liked your pages. Get some traffic whether it's through posting on social platforms or setting up a PPC campaign. Traffic is the key to natural linking, without it you will gain nothing.
- Add plenty of great content. You'll need to mix in educational content, funny content and odd ball content so you can play on the emotions and personality of the person reading it. Now you may not feel the tugs on your heart strings from the article, but someone else might and then they'll share it lol. I've noticed that funny posts get shared more than most because happiness and laughter is what everyone wants to share with their family and friends
- You can lock your content in order to increase your social sharing. There are scripts out there that make your users "Pay with a like or share". Once they share or like your content they will have full access to your website. It's a clever way to spread across social platforms, but content locking restricts you at the same time because some people treat their social platforms like it's their own website and they won't want to share or like anything.

I think you've nailed it here, creating quality content that is engaging is really the way to go if you want people to share your content and link back to it. Thanks Razzy, I am loving all these tips about creating natural backlinks. It has been hammered into me that backlinks can be dangerous for my website and because of this I am terrified of doing the wrong thing.
