Is Coding knowledge necessary to make a good site?

Recently a friend of mine was inquiring about starting up his own site and he wanted to know about what level of knowledge is required? Personally I know a thing or two about HTML etc and it really comes in handy when WordPress throws up errors but I was wondering if I should recommend some lessons to him or tell him it's fine. I know that there are a lot of online institutes that can teach code and I have used a few in the past but is it really worth his time doing that to solve a few WordPress based issues.

Knowing how to code or program isn't really necessary when getting a website up, but it does come in handy if something breaks

On a scale of 1 to 10 for my programming and coding knowledge, I'd say I'm around a 0.5 lol

I can do some basic HTML and that's about it. But that didn't stop me from putting up close to 20 websites and getting them to make money ;)

If you don't have the skills, you can always outsource the work or use systems that are in place for people like me who don't have the skills lol. I tend to use Wordpress a lot when setting up a new website. I will buy my domain, set up my hosting, set up Wordpress on my hosting, upload my premium theme, configure the theme to my liking and then market the website

For ecommerce I do the same thing but instead of Wordpress I'll use Shopify because it's very idiot proof

Wordpress and Shopify are good work arounds if I don't want to outsource the design and programming. The only downside is that you're limited by what the theme already has and it's plugins. Sure you can get a plugin for the Wordpress dashboard, but they don't always have what you want and you'll have to hire a programmer.

If you outsource it, I would go on websites like SeoClerks (duh) and post a WTB (want to buy) sales page to see if anyone would be willing to do the work for you. Normally it's pretty cheap because you can hire people from India or the Philippines to do the work. Just be careful, do your research on each person who applies. I've been scammed by people on other platforms because I didn't do my due diligence. I've never had a problem here on SeoClerks though

As for learning how to do all this yourself. I hope you have the time to learn it all because it won't be a one week type of learning course

I've been told that codeacademy.com is a great place to go and learn whatever you want. And not only is it great, but it's 100% FREEEEE!!!! which makes it even better

I have half a dozen websites. I have even set up websites for my clients. However, I don't know coding. I use wordpress to build websites and I customize the website by using plugins. Yes, you can create a good website without any coding skills.However, if you do not have coding skills, you may not be able to do what you actually wanted to do. Therefore, if you want to work as a webmaster, you should learn to code. I think Udemy is the best place to learn to code.

Coding knowledge is not necessary, but if you really want to develop your self, then it depends what you want to develop and gain. Some things can be very simple, while it can take months and years to develop something serious. Specially if you want something with payment processors with high security etc.

Hasa1015 I have some incredibly basic coding skills. If Razzy is a 0.5 out of 10 than I must be a 0.0001 out of 10 LOL.

I can write code for very simple things only like links, images, bold, headings etc but nothing more than that. I understand the basics so I can search for how to code something for a post. Further than that like other members here saying they can fix problems with their websites, those are things that are well beyond my knowledge and experience.

Anyway, back the the topic... I have 3 websites that I run all myself. So no, I don't think it is necessary to know how to code at all. I do think learning how to add content, how to write content and how to rank content are essential skills to learn to run your own website.

Yes anyone can outsource this work but if you don't know what is important how will you be able to hire the right person?

Nope, coding knowledge is not necessary however it can help. There are many scripts available to start a website, whether it be a blog, or an ecommerce website. Many small business owners that operate online do quite fine with just a free opensource script. Surely they may of hired a programmer down the road to make certain changes, but overall you don't really need to learn how to code if you're willing to pay someone to do the work for you.

If you are working with wordpress, you don't need coding knowledge. In order to create a great wordpress site, you must find a great theme (if you can, get a premium theme), customize the theme according to your necessity, add plugins and widgets and you are done. When I created my first blog, I had zero knowledge on how to create a website. Currently, I offer website development services to my clients. This transformation happened just in the period of one year.

I don’t think knowledge of coding is necessary when you have a website. We usually hire a website designer and he calls the shots with the design problems. But other than that, there is no coding involved especially if your site is in Wordpress which, I think, is the most popular platform now due to the ease of use. I also have plans of having a website of my own but learning coding is not on my agenda.
