What Are Call To Actions?

Call To Actions are when you actually call upon or ask someone to perform some action. This can be anything from asking someone to click a link, subscribe to your newsletter, download something or just telling the reader to give you a call or visit your contact page to send you a message or anything that gets people doing something that traditional sentences like this one doesn't really do.

Call To Actions are essentially pick up lines, and like pick up lines, they work when they are used correctly, in the right place, at the right time.

We've all been using Call To Actions for a long time, sometimes subconsciously without even realizing it. Sometimes we don't use any Call To Actions in our blog posts and sales and landing pages etc. Let me tell you something, don't do that! The conversion ratio is abysmal! When using Call To Actions, you can expect much better conversion rates! More clicks and sales and revenue.

50 Call To Action Examples That Work

The original and classic Call To Action that is used on virtually every website in the world somewhere. Telling your readers where to click to get something getting straight to the point!
  • Just Click Here
When you add the word just to click here, it gives the impression that it's even easier to do than clicking somewhere. Example and alternatives include, simply click here and swiftly etc.
Nothing says what it is on the tin than the classic "Read More" Call To Action. Can also be combo'd with the first to say "Click Here to read more" as if they want to read more they will do
  • Buy it Now
This Call To Action has been used the world over and is the last Call To Action a buyer will take after clicking "Click Here" or "Read More".
  • Get it Now
Similar to "Buy it Now" but with less emphasis on buying something and more emphasis on actually getting it but still buying it. Use an exclamation mark for extra emphasis!
  • Add to Cart
Some people might want to buy but not right away. Giving them the option to Add To Cart as well as one that has Buy it Now written on it whether it's a link, a button or an image that says it, means they can add it to the cart which can act like a wish list for them for when they're ready to buy.
  • Download Now
Not download tomorrow, or download in 3 days, 5 hours and 42 minutes. NOW! In this era of instant gratification; where people want things right away. The "Download Now" Call To Action fixes that.
  • Instant Download
Similar to "Download Now" but by calling it an instant download, people know they will be able to get it right away at that instant and people like that!
  • Join Now
This works best for sites where membership is required like social networking sites and forums for example.
  • Register Now
Some people say that the word "Register" works better than "Join". It seems the worlds divided! What's best, Register or Join?
  • Act Now!
This Call To Action works best for time sensitive offers where the price is due to change and go up. Works better when emphasized with an exclamation mark!
  • Act Fast!
Act Now, Act Fast, Act Soon etc - these are all great ways to make people do something much quicker and can play on their emotions.
  • In a Rush?
Some people are genuinely in a rush to get something. So Call To Actions like "Click here to buy it now with fast instant delivery" can be very effective.
  • Get Started Now
Once people have read what they need to read and are clued up and want to get started, telling them literally to Get Started Now is what you need to do.
  • DO NOT Click This Link
Like the title of this discussion telling you not to do something. Although this one is a little immature, boy does it work well! It's human nature to do something you're told not to do! So you can have some fun with this one and use it in a lot of places to get more clicks than the rest!

Great article Mike!
Hopefully a bunch of people will learn from this. CTA is extremely important in business and you can use awesome call to actions on SEOClerks too, on your service listing. I've seen a handful of people doing this and I did it earlier too. A good, solid and strong CTA will play a HUGE role when it comes to sales.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I've actually seen a CTA that was something like this:
C***! Yeah, YOU! YOU ARE AS STUPID AS I AM SO YOU WILL CLICK HERE, AM I RIGHT? I AM A ****. ARE YOU?"

I can't remember the EXACT sentence, but it was something like that at least, with those words and all. Probably the weirdest one I've seen in a long time.. And I have no idea of how successful it was.. But kind of fun. Whatever You Do Do NOT Click This to See 50 Proven Call To Action Examples That Improve Your CTR

Thanks for giving us this information because sometimes we forget to use those “call to action” phrases that can actually get us more sales. I don’t have an e-commerce site yet but perhaps I have to remember things that I learn from this site so that when time comes that I get my own website then I will have many options. I remember in school that we were also taught those “call to action” phrases but in a different field.

I'm liking the clip bait. I guess it still works, because I see 10 people before me who have clicked on it. In my opinion it's not the call to action phrase that get people to take action. It's how you use this phrases in your email landing page. How you convince people psychologically that they need to take action. In my experience, I have found that the best way to get people to take action is to offer them something . For example an ebook that has information on a topic they are interested in, is the easiest way to get people to act to a call for action.
