Your WhoIs information shows your real name, home address, telephone number, email address and other personally identifiable information. All this information can be taken by an identity thief if left exposed to public view.

Most domain registrars automatically provide WhoIs protection for your private information. Just in case, you need to check your control panel to ensure that WhoIs protection is enabled. That way your private information won't be exposed to hackers and identity thiefs.

Yes, some domain name registrar provides free who is protection while some not allow, Godaddy doesn't allow so you have to buy it..... if you think you shouldn't disclose your contact information.

I like to protect my information so I activate it, usually I get if free however sometimes I have to pay and it is hard when you are on a budget.

When I am registering my domain, I also subscribe to whois guard protection service. However, when I am renewing my domain, I will avoid getting this protection service. On the first year, if you don't get domain protection, you will receive numerous spam messages, however, upon renewal spam messages will stop.
