How does Google define Whitehat SEO?

After recent search engine algorithm updates, some cynics have claimed that Google is against ALL types of SEO. But, this quote from Google's official webmaster blog shows they approve of WhiteHat SEO methods. Look how Google defines Whitehat SEO.

“White hat” search engine optimizers often improve the usability of a site, help create great content, or make sites faster, which is good for both users and search engines.

Good search engine optimization can also mean good marketing: thinking about creative ways to make a site more compelling, which can help with search engines as well as social media. The net result of making a great site is often greater awareness of that site on the web, which can translate into more people linking to or visiting a site.

It's possible Google simply wants us to be more careful with backlinking, only getting backlinks from related sites and pages rather than trying to manipulate search engine results by getting 1000's of backlinks which have no relevance to the site being linked to.

Actually these algorithms are sometimes bullshit. They write some new algorithm to band some errors, meanwhile some quility sites also going to get down. Any kind of SEO is risky in some days. But still google has the basic algorithm with it. That is when you having good set of high ranked links you have high ran too..
