Is social media optimization is the new way of SEO? Social pages are getting ranked in search engine results. So should we use more social media optimization for ranking better in search results?

Of course Social Media is the one the best way to optimize, but you note that it will only cache the links to google and so there may be more visitors to your website.

Social media sharing sends social signals which is very beneficial in SEO perspective. For instance, if your website has been shared 1000 times on facebook and tweeted 100 times, Google will give more importance to your site rather than the site that las been shared on facebook and twitter less times than yours.

With the term social signals I guess search engines are now aware of our posts in social media. In other words, my understanding of a post on my timeline is equivalent to a backlink if my post includes the link of my site. Aside from the chance of it being clicked by a reader on my timeline, search engines can also include that post in their search list. Please correct me if I am wrong on my understanding.
