How to do forum SEO

Are there any special techniques you can use (that vary from what you would use for a blog) when doing SEO for a forum?

One thing that i do on my own forum is to start a post that focuses on one specific keyword and then target that through out the discussion. It seems to help that page rank better, especially when i get relevant backlinks.

What are some other unique ideas for forum SEO?

Do deep link seo for forums. This always works. Encourage your members to build backlinks as well using social media and other methods.

The deep link is new to me although I am assuming that it is a web page that is far down below in the tier of web pages of the site. With the backlinks, I have encountered one forum that was doing that by letting their members post their backlinks with the encouragement for the members to check on the posted backlinks. That will create traffic to the sites and also to the forum.

My take on the SEO for forums is the keyword that you will include when you create a thread of discussion. The keywords should be directly relevant or a direct description of what the subject of the discussion is all about. For example of a forum about pets, if the discussion you have created is the story of stray dogs then you can put keywords like rabies or overpopulation which are descriptive of the subject.
