Linkbuilding is 'bad', so why is everyone still talking about it?

On some forums, I'm reading how link building is so bad now and how it creates artificial backlinks which can get a site penalized. And, if that's so, then why do so many people still have articles published online (even dating back a few years) about link building practices? Why don't all those sites just unpublish the old information and update with something new?

Most webmaster's or site owners choose to keep the information up because the content gets good quality, natural traffic, though it is misleading for some, it's better for people to look at current information, rather then older content. In addition to that, site content unfortunately gets scraped all the time, so it would be out of their control.

If site owners unpublished most of their content and replaced it with all new on their site, the search engines would assume you're starting over from scratch, and you would go back to square one. I believe individuals should be leaving the old posts alone, and create new about the changes. Changes within search engines happen all the time. If you were to change all of your content based on current changes, you wouldn't be giving Google the chance to rank you, as it wouldn't know what to rank you for Linkbuilding is

I would not mind if a webmaster published a disclaimer that said the info on that page is outdated and showed a link to a more credible and updated source. That would help the reader out.

Im going to try to get to the root here. Where in the world did you hear link building was bad? It just depends how you build your links. Everything that links to your page is some form of link building. How else would Google know you are credible. Grey hat is even OK if you know what you are doing. I usually build my first and second tier manually (white hat) and on the third and 4th tier I fire away with 1000s of backlinks.

If one of the links on the third tier goes bad you just remove the page on the 2nd tier that its linking to. Problem solved. This makes cleaning up broken links incredibly easy with the correct tools. It sucks if you lose a high PR page but at least your site isn't getting penalized. Linkbuilding is

As they say, you can't believe everything you read online. If backlinking were bad then no sites would be ranking in Google search.

As per G guidelines link building is bad, no matter that you do it manually or on auto pilot.

Now to get back to the op question.... I can't understand what you, and some other do here....? Some of them even call them self seo specialist, im specialist and so on....

Your question sound like: "I hear that lying is bad, in this case why people tell lies?" so I even don't bother to answer...

Link building is bad if you have a big blinking sign saying "I'M LINK BUILDING!!!" But if you make your linking strategy diverse, how in the world are they going to know the difference. The key is no digital footprints and such. I think you're talking out of the wrong end right now and going to call you out, since I have contributed COMPLETE linking and tiered linking strategies in this forum!

You're an SEO specialist? Talking like that, I don't think so!

You are being rude, and I can't understand what you are doing on this thread and what your point or value is.

Any links intended to manipulate PageRank or a site's ranking in Google search results may be considered part of a link scheme and a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. This includes any behavior that manipulates links to your site or outgoing links from your site.

at least be sure you know what are you doing.

I don't say that I'm not building links in the try of ranking websites but I know what I'm doing

There's a lot of really bad advice about SEO online, especially if you are reading old forum posts (some forums and blogs have posts dating back to the mid 2000's). And, if you take any advice from an old post, you are likely to end up doing the wrong thing.

Just check the date on the post you are reading to see if it's really current. Also, be aware that some people spread misinformation online or pass along commonly held myths of SEO, just because they have nothing better to say.

You best defense against bad SEO advice is to stick with a credible source of information such as Google. They make the rules, so why not take a look at what they have to say about SEO.

Find the most updated information on SEO by reading the Google Webmaster Central blog and Google Webmaster Help.

Link building will be around forever, so don't listen to anybody telling you link building is dead. The difference between good link building and bad link building all depends on how, where and in what quantity the links are being made.

Link Building isn't bad. It's the low quality, unnatural link building that is bad. Link Building is one way to increase site rankings. just as long as you build high quality and organic backlink.

MANUAL link building is the best here because quality content are posted and google wont see your link content as spam. also posting links in good quality high authority high page rank sites helps alot to rank high in google search results.

Pardon me for this comment because I am wondering why they would say that building backlinks is bad and why is there an accusation of artificial backlinks? Anyway, backlinks are always backlinks whether artificial or not. When we post a link on a popular forum and it remains there for a long time then that is a good backlink if the forum is dynamic and popular. That is a simple chore that many are doing for the sake of traffic to their site. And I guess it is not bad at all.
