    Is it legal to sell backlinks?

    Is it legal to sell backlinks on a page? Of course, it's your blog so you can do what you want. But I mean legal as in safe for SEO?

    You can sell a backlink or advertisement on your page, so long as you don't allow the link to pass page rank. Google considers that cheating as it's designed to trick search engines into thinking you are willingly linking to the page of your own free will. And, since it's a paid ad, they ask that you make the link no follow.

    Here's what Google says about it:


    ...link schemes which can negatively impact a site's ranking in search results: Buying or selling links that pass PageRank. This includes exchanging money for links, or posts that contain links

    So long as the links you are selling do not pass page rank, you should be OK.

    The paid links that pass page rank are seen as a link scheme by Google.
