Why does Google have to check cookie when I login?

When I login to Blogger, it flashes a url in my browser window that says, 'checkcookie' as in Google is checking the cookie. If I have the correct login details, why are they looking for a cookie?

Google likes to customize your browsing experience. Google will save your preferences in a cookie on your computer that allows you to view a site in a way that works for you. This is better than being treated as a first time Google user.

It depends on policy of the website, some website won't allow you if you haven't enabled your cookies...

Maybe they are just verifying your login details and adding a cooking to your computer (if one is not already present) and this will help them customize the website experience for you.

Hi Carson,

Cookies are small files containing information that are created when navigation many websites. They're used for remembering login details, site preferences and all sorts of other things.

Google doing a check is just checking if a cookie is present with the information needed for you to be logged in straight away instead of making you have to do the login.

Regards,
Karoshio
