Getting published in a local or regional magazine might not be so hard, but the pay is not worthwhile. But, could you ever get published in an authoritative magazine such as The Smithsonian?

If you are an accredited expert in a niche or some type of professor for a university, then you have a very good chance of being published in one of these authoritative magazines. Though you would need very impressive credentials and thorough research to get the job. I'm sure the pay would be very good though.

I would say "Ta hell with it!" and do it. The worse that could happen is getting denied, but you can always keep trying. I think it would be worth a damn good try.
