How do you give yourself a promotion as a freelancer?

When you're working in a brick and mortar business, you will likely earn promotions and move up through the ranks and earn more money along with each promotion. But, as a freelancer, there is no one there to promote you up and your success is based directly on your own efforts and not left up to the whims of an employer. If you earn more, it's a result of better marketing/promotion tactics, smart pricing of services and repeat/referral business.

And, while you may never get the formal recognition of success as you would with a regular job, there are still a few things you can do to promote yourself up so that others recognize your achievements.

  • Be vocal about your success. If you land a big freelancing job which pays more, tweet about it; share it to Facebook. Let others know how valued you are.
  • Take pride in depositing your earnings into your bank
  • Give yourself an official title or nickname which is indicative of your niche
  • Throw a real life party in your own honor, celebrating a recent success, such as 100th freelance sale

It would be good if on of your best clients even made a video you could post on your blog or sales page, saying how much they love your services.

Have a certificate printed up of your latest accomplishment and display it proudly in your home office. For instance, 'Achieved 1000th sale on SEOClerks!'. That would be a big deal for many here and something worth celebrating.

There was a time when I used to write a 500-word article for just $3. I used to rewrite a 500-word article for just $1.5. These days , I charge $5 for 500-word article, and if the article is SEO article, my asking fee is $8. These days, I charge just about $3 for rewriting 500 word article. By refusing to work in low paying writing jobs, I have promoted myself.
There was a time when I used to write an ebook of 5000 words for $50. These days my asking price is $150. My fees is based on how much effort the writing requires. This is my promotion as a freelance writer.
