Starting with no readers for your blog

When you start a blog, you will usually have no readers. So how do you get those initial readers coming in to read your first posts? What traffic building tips can you give for a very new blog?

Friends and family will be your first blog readers. They will be naturally curious about your new blog and may ask to read what you have posted. You should oblige by sending a link to your latest blog post or asking them to subscribe to be notified of updates. You could even post your link on your Facebook timeline so others on your Facebook friends list can see and visit the site.

If you have another blog of related theme, you could link to the current new blog and ask others to check it out. Forums are another good place to get blog readers, especially if the blog is related to the forum you are posting on.

It would be good to post on sites that are similar. Those who have a similar interest in items related to your blog will probably enjoy reading it. You might join a group of interest related to your blog and encourage others to read and post on your blog.

That is usually the situation when a blog is launched, there are no followers yet. But for a good planner, the blog should already have readers and commenters as well by the time it is launched. That is where the friends and relatives come in - send them invites and ask for their support before the blog is launched. You can liken it to a movie premiere where the film's producer invites people, particularly media and critics, to help them in promoting the movie. For a blog, the initial readers will surely be of help in gaining more readers.

If you get to your family and friends, they are likely to help you. My first readers were my friends and families. My first customers were my families and friends. Your friends and families will always come to rescue you.

When I published my first post, I shared on facebook and Twitter. I have about 500 friends/followers on facebook and twitter. Most of these followers are also writers. I have read their contents hundreds of times, therefore, when I share my content, she read and commented. In my experience, the primary method of reaching out to your readers is by sharing on social media. When I shared on social media, I received my first 1000 views in a week.
