Do you encourage activism on your forum?

Forums are a good place to socialize and meet others who share a similar opinion. And, for this reason, a forum can also be a good place to encourage activism for a good cause. Do you use your forum for this purpose?

It would just depend on the forum subject matter/niche as to whether or not this would be appropriate. For instance, on a business marketing forum, the type of activism that members might support would be different than on a 'save the wildlife' forum.

There's no reason not to allow members to show their support of various worthwhile causes, even allowing them to link to that in the signature line.

You could have a forum fundraiser for the most popular 'cause' that is supported by forum members.

I'm sure you would raise lots of money with this.

I think the forum has a theme and the boards have specific topics. I am not really against activism per se but in the forum, it is better to stick to the designated parameters. And more likely, posting about activism and their causes can only lead to a political debate and may start a faction war. The same with religion, that's why I am careful to comment on posts with religious flavor because I am afraid that it may start a debate of sorts which is not healthy to the well-being of the community.
