Respond to forum spam or delete it?

There's so many different types of forum spam. For instance, most forums consider one word/irrelevant and promotional link posts as 'spam'. However, on one particular forum where I am a member they simply respond to the spam and leave the spam up rather than removing it. Usually, I just find it's better to delete the spam than waste time responding to or chastising the spammer on open forum. The person who posted the spam will likely never come back to see follow up comments anyway. No forum needs posts so bad as to let spam stay up. It's not a real post so it should be deleted if it adds nothing of value that can benefit other members. What's your policy on this situation?

Do you mean to say that the mod comments on the spam post to send a message to the spammer? Pardon me but that is silly huh. Yes, I agree that it is better to just delete the spam post and then block the IP of the poster. That way, the spammer needs another IP to register otherwise he cannot enter the forum anymore. My suggestion is to create a board that is invisible to the community and that's where you move the spam posts. At least you have a record and reference if needed.
