I've run a forum before and it's so much harder work than maintaining a blog where all you do is put up a post a day. The forum has so many members to manage, where as the blog only has one.
For me, a blog is easier to manage. But, a forum is far more exciting to be part of.

I like forums. I think that they are more engaging and that you meet more people this way. I would much rather have a forum than a blog.

Another great thing about forums is that once going, users create the content for you. You can go on vacation and come back to 100 new pages of content. Not so with a blog. You'll come back with exactly the number of pages you left with. I agree, forums are so much more work but so much more rewarding when you get an awesome community. Blogs to me are too boring, the content doesn't change often enough. Another great thing about forums is that once going, users create the content for you.
