How do you tell forum members the site has been sold?

What's the best way to announce change of ownership with a forum? Also, how do you prepare forum members for the new management (which might include different admins/mods too or other changes on site)?

Don't hide the truth from your forum members. If you are leaving for personal or family reasons, then say so. Though you don't have to reveal all details. Your forum members will appreciate your honesty. That will make the transition to new forum ownership much easier.

But what if you are quitting your forum because of stress caused by forum feuding or by the lack of time to manage the active forum? How do you still tell everyone you need to go away for awhile without placing blame or making it seem as if anyone on the forum is at fault?

Let them know with either a message that has been sent out to all members or start a new thread or have a banner on the top of the page to let them know.

For me, the forum is all about the forum that is composed of the theme, the topics and the posts. The owner is transparent to me. And even if the owner would make a statement about the change of ownership, it wouldn't matter to me. However, if the new owner would rock the boat with new regulations then that's a different story.
