Can you really earn money as a forum owner?

Is it possible to earn money from a forum? Have you earned any money yet, from Adsense or selling ad space?

Of course, you can earn money from a forum. Otherwise why would there be so many forums? Not everyone runs a forum as a hobby. Even if you don't sell ad space, you can always sell the forum once it gets a large enough community. In that way you could easily earn money from the forum project.

Yes, very much possible to earn the money from forums.

Yes I am earning, not only from adsense and selling ad space, but also by way of selling signature links, providing sponsor thread advertisement called 'Sticky Global Thread' The 'Global Thread' is a thread which appears on top of every forums or sub-forums.

I know one webmaster and search engine marketing forum, which is earning good amount of money by way of selling 'Premium membership', members are more then willing to pay as they are getting good returns there by becoming 'Premium member' because they provide special feature to privileged members like providing two more signature links, do-follow signature links (ordinary members have only two signature spots and they are no-follow also), plus they get bold username with Premium badge for their profile.

I must mention here that your forum should have enough traffic and activities for earning from ad space, adsense, premium membership, selling signature links etc.

Also your community should be neat, clean, well maintained, and spam free, which will attract the advertisers to buy the ad space.

G!

I do not have a forum but a question that I want to know is how much do people pay for a forum that someone else has started for them?

Yes I think that you can earn some decent money off a forum. But that should not be the only reason that you do it.

If you have a forum, you can earn through couple of ways.
Allowing the members to advertise their products and services for a certain fee.
Having network ads, Adsense for instance.
Affiliate marketing
Allowing members to advertise their products and services and cutting some percentage from the sale (SEO clerk does this).
Forums have a good chance of earning.

I am interested in this thread because I have this wild idea of having a forum of my own. It will be patterned with my posts on social media and my target community is my community in Facebook. But it will not be a loose forum because the theme will be about pets and maybe other animals as well. With Adsense, I already had asked around and the earnings is slow unless the site is dynamic. What I know are earnings of a blog vis-a-vis hits. With the forum, I have no idea of the earnings.
